This year is an important milestone for ProTrans International – 2018 marks our 25th year as a leader in the logistics industry. Over the past 25 years, ProTrans has stayed a steady presence in the industry and has found its niche in the 3PL and Consolidation market. To help celebrate this year we are celebrating 25 people who have dedicated years of service to help shape ProTrans into the organization that we know today.
Our featured profile today is of Kathy Joy, Director of Human Resources. Mrs. Joy has been with ProTrans for 18 years. What position(s) have you held since working with ProTrans?
I was hired as the HR Manager in September of 2000 and then was promoted to Director of HR in December of 2000. What is one interesting fact about ProTrans when you started?
I believe there were 161 employees when I started. There were only 9 employees in Laredo. What was the “hip” trend when you started working at ProTrans?
Some of the clothing items that are not allowed per the current dress code were actually observed back in the earlier days. Aside from that, it was fun to see Craig Roeder on rare occasions in overalls. What was the last thing you heard or saw which made you laugh out loud?
A rerun of The Office. They are an HR nightmare! What hobbies do you enjoy?
Reading, cooking, gardening, travel and some art projects. Cats or dogs? Or other pets?
Dogs! My husband and I have two White Westies. Our extended family is full of dog lovers and they enjoy bringing them to Sunday dinner at our house. Sometimes it is like a scene out of the 1983 movie, A Christmas Story. What excites you so much that it keeps you awake the night before?
Family visits or great vacations. Since starting with ProTrans, what is the biggest change you have seen/experienced with the company?
Continuous growth of the company. What is the one thing in this world you are most proud of?
That is about to happen so I’ll wait for that question. What are you passionate about?
Helping people and traveling. If you could take a paid year off, what would you do with the time?
I’d like to do some work on our house, take some classes and volunteer at Fishers Agro-park or work with a team to develop curriculum for intercity students on growing, preserving and preparing healthy food. What’s the most incredible view you’ve ever seen?
Paris at night. At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
I would like to max out my card on a travel agency for the trip of a lifetime. If you could splurge on one must have item, what would it be?
A sports car or a boat. What was the best concert you ever attended?
Robert Plant opening for The Who was excellent but I think it would have to be Roger Waters performing The Wall. What is your favorite sport? Team? And Sport’s moment in history?
I love to watch the Colts- sometimes more than others. One of my favorite memories was attending Super Bowl XLI with the Roeders, Lisa Doerner, John Ousley, Gary Cardenas (Bears lost Gary) and a few others. I will never forget it. What has compelled you to stay with ProTrans for as long as you have?
I love my job and the people I work with day-to-day. As a former economics teacher, I’ve always been interested in business and I have enjoyed watching ProTrans grow.
