Our road to success
Founded in 1993, ProTrans launched as a response to emerging opportunities in consolidations and logistics services — supporting manufacturing markets from the Midwest to Texas, and into Mexico. Through this business model, we provided cost savings to clients as we consolidated their freight.
In 1994, The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was signed to promote economic growth between the US, Canada and Mexico by easing the movement of goods and services. We saw the chance to participate in the emerging maquiladora operations along the US/Mexico border and transformed their initial business plan to allow us to expand and diversify their service offerings.
Now, we provide customers with creatively engineered solutions. Our success is directly attributed to the dedication, perseverance and flexibility inherent in each member of our team. Our commitment to recruiting, developing and maintaining a high-quality workforce will continue to drive our success. Expertise unlike any other
Craig Roeder, Chief Executive Officer
Craig shepherds the company in our quest to continuously develop innovative solutions and products for our clients. He started ProTrans in 1993 with just a few employees and a vision of providing something different. Today, he leads over 850 employees in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Prior to ProTrans, Craig worked many years in logistics both as an entrepreneur and at RCA. He holds an accounting degree from Indiana University and resides in Indianapolis, devoting much of his time to family and the community.
Shawn Masters, Chief Commercial Officer
With over 18 years of experience, Shawn is responsible for the commercial strategy and development of the organization, the customer interface, and product and service expansion. He also leads all activities related to marketing, analysis and engineering, and account development.
Before joining ProTrans, he was Director of Customer Logistics at Ryder Logistics, involved in many account startups including top tier one and OEM manufacturing accounts.
A graduate of Central Michigan University, Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in logistics management and marketing.
Lisa Doerner, Chief Financial Officer
Lisa leads all accounting and analysis activities, along with strategic planning. She first joined ProTrans in 1995 through the accounting department, worked in the analysis department from 1999 to 2004, and later served as Manager of Analysis from 2004 to 2009. These many years of experience gave her deep insight into the inner-workings of a company she would soon lead.
A graduate of Indiana University, Lisa has a degree in accounting.
John Woods, Executive Vice President of Sales
Mr. Woods joined ProTrans in 1999 as a Sales Consultant in California. He later served roles as Regional Director of Border Sales in Texas and General Director of ProTrans de Mexico in Queretaro, Mexico, overseeing Sales, Operations and Administration. He currently serves as EVP of Sales, a position he has held since 2009.
Prior to joining ProTrans, Mr. Woods held a variety of Sales and Operations positions in the international ocean shipping division of Consolidated Freightways in Seattle and Los Angeles.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University.
Allen Phelps, Chief Information Officer
Allen leads all strategic development in bringing technology and business solutions together — all in an effort to make ProTrans a leader in providing innovative and consistent results.
Prior to joining ProTrans, he served as IT Director for Celadon Trucking.
A graduate of Ivy Technical College of Indiana, Allen holds an Associates degree in computer science and technology.
Chris Blunk, Chief Operations Officer
Chris Blunk serves as Chief Operations Officer for ProTrans, a position he has held since 2014. In his role Chris is responsible for all operational activities including Consolidation Operations in the United States and Mexico, Transportation Management and Freight Management; assuring these functions are aligned to meet the objectives of ProTrans and its customers.
As an integral part of ProTrans for over nineteen years, his background includes extensive experience in Operations, Analysis and Logistics Engineering as well as experience gained Manager of Pricing and Cost Analysis and Director of Financial Analysis.
As a senior leader Chris contributes toward employee engagement, leadership development, customer focus, and quality.Chris holds a Bachelor degree in accounting from Indiana University.
Kathy Joy, Director of Human Resources
Kathy is in charge of managing policy development, payroll, compensation, benefits, recruitment, employee communications and safety for the entire network.
Prior to joining ProTrans, Kathy worked in recruiting and education. She holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Ball State University and has earned her PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and CWCC (Certified Workers Compensation Counselor) certifications.

ProTrans’ Social Responsibility is aimed to enhance our communities and protect the quality of life of its employees. Some examples of ProTrans initiatives are:
- Health/safety program is implemented at all ProTrans centers (e.g. Safety Process Walks)
- Charity support/fund raising activities including blood donation program are part of ProTrans culture.
- ProTrans provides community support to local universities by offering opportunities to students to gain experience and professional development via our Talent Development Program
Resource Management & Environment Protection
Recycling and safe disposal programs at the different ProTrans’ centers.
Water & Energy Resource Management:
As new facilities are built or older facilities renovated ProTrans continues to incorporate sustainable initiatives such as installing energy-efficient interior and exterior lighting, lighting motion sensors, manage storm water runoff, incorporate Energy Star appliances, install low-flow toilets, skylights, etc.
ProTrans’ Laredo Center, opened in mid-2014, incorporated many of these sustainable approaches.
ProTrans is Smartway certified (Environmental Protection Agency initiative to control CO2 emissions). ProTrans is committed to considering alternative fuel options.
Business Conduct and Ethics
ProTrans Human Resource policy aligns with UN Initiative Global Compact (Davos, 1/99) and includes a code of conduct against bribery, extortion, child labor, discrimination, freedom of association and respect for internationally proclaimed human rights. This policy is also included in our “Terms And Conditions Contract” with our business partners.
